Greetings Colorado!

I just discovered the site yesterday.  There was a reference on Survivorblog yesterday that led mke to find you.  I have been a daily reader there for a little over a year and prepping for as long.  I’m closing hard on mid fifties, married, with a thirteen year old son.

Due to our business, we’re really unable to blow metro Denver at the moment.  Our basic plan is to of course watch closely as things unfold.  If and when the city gets violent, we will flee to our 8 forested acres near Bailey.  The current tenants laughed when I said if SHTF we’re showing up.  Then they said “bring food”.  That won’t be a problem.

I figure we have enogh stuff to fill our 2 cargo vans and stuff the Suburban.  Hopefully my son can pilot one of the craft.  My wife said leaving the dog is not an option.

If the moutain house becomes untenable, our final option would be to hide in the forest.   We should be provisioned for at least a year.

Anyone out there with some better ideas?

Any help or just chat would be welcome.

  1. Bob, I am new to the site as well….also found it while on survivalblog.com. I am part of the In God We Trust 9/12 group and you can locate us on the Meet-Up website. We meet in the Thornton, CO area. The group per se is not a “prepper group” but many in the group are prepping so we provide support for each other in our efforts to prepare. Some have property that they’ll be able to bug-out to but the rest of us will be trying to make it hunkered down. We’ll see how things go… I think we’re all preparing to be able to bug-out should the need arise. Glad you have that all worked out for your family.

    God bless you! Gaileforce

  2. I wish we had it all worked out. There is only a vauge framework with big holes and vulnerabilities. Just yesterday, I came across the iodide tablets we bought at the self reliance show a few weeks ago and went to put them in stores. Thinking of grouping with otc meds, I started a box, then quickly realized we just have a disorganized hodge podge of stuff. And we still have several important things to get. Organization and inventory lists would be nice.

We would surely be receptive to any 9-12 group and I’ve wondered if there might be some subgroup within tea party. Personally, I fear it is too late for smooth political correction when the other side is fighting so hard against the financial reality.

A couple days ago, I saw a truck with our yellow “don’t tread on me” plus big letters: “Colorado Front Range Militia.com”. I searched and found on their page all good stuff – but probably enough to scare the bejeebies out of lefties and maybe draw attention from Janet Napalitano who thinks Constitutionalists are homegrown terrorists.

Anyway, they say they’re not going anywhere but will defend Constitution right here. More power to them, but for me, if it is going to get real nasty, I just want to be out of the way and that may be too hard to accomplish in Metro Big D.

Our bug out plan needs sooooo much work.

  3. Bob, One of the first things you should do is establish where you want to be able to get to, then get out a map and look for the shortest route while avoiding major artteries of travel: ie: use back roads and county roads. The write it down road by road, avoid, when possible, any town larger than 4500 people. Drive the route in boht summer and winter, mark on a map of the county’s you will be traveling thru the location of Service Stations, and places where you can get off the road to rest and be hidden from the road way. If you have small children be sure to bring plenty of things for them to do on you move, and also have plenty of blankets, sleeping bags water, and a good small shovel-a military entrenching tool is ideal, so that you can bury your trash. If you have children in diapers bring cloth diapers and a good solid pail with an air tight lid, bleach/oxicleen and extra water to wash the diapers out in. You should above all have a sound 4 wheel drive vehicle, with chains for the winter, and a good set of all terrain tires and spare, with hoses, and clamps, as well as a spare belt or two.

  4. Hi Bob, I replyed to your e-mail, and explained first buddie comment. I’m in my mid 50′s also. You talked about some acers in Baily? Have you thought of building a below ground shelt? Over time I’ve picked up on some shelters, what I’ve seen seems to be do able. The main objective is to try and do it as quietly as possible, meaning keep it from prying eyes, or “staying under the radar”.

  5. Well Bob Good to meet you in a sense. I live by DU My plan is to hunker down. Wait for things to find a direction and gather intell. I have the means for this in place for about a year after that its a crap shoot. I figure that in time if it is bad folks will need security and help as in weapons gear and back up. I do not plan on trying to grow a farm load of food. But with my skills will be a asset to any group that needs my type of skill. Me I will head east to fertile land. I lived in the mountains for 15 years and know that it is not the place to try to get it going . I just stopped by to say howdy and let folks think about some things. If SHTF then 1 you better be ready to fight. 2 You better be ready 24 7 365 to run counter ops. 3 You better be ready to kill the gangs that will be about will have no problem over running a group. If they have one or two folks with tactical training they will be formidable to hold off. Hope you know what a loop hole means in real life Hope you can shoot over 400 yards on the run. This is what I train for. But hey we may just need a GOVERNMENT HAND OUT right..
