There has been an increase in interest from the media recently to interview people from this site.  I strongly advise everyone NOT to talk to the media.

It is in your own interests to NOT disclose your personal details (real name, address, etc.) either on the forum or by email unless you have first gotten to know that person through PM or a face to face.

It’s not a good idea to advertise that you “might have” stockpiles of food or survival related equipment to the press. Their main interest is in making you look like an extremist or a fool. Their ratings and sales depend on them being able to sensationalize a story – facts come a poor second.

If they spam you with requests for interviews remember that there are harsh penalties for spamming. You might want to consider reporting their spam.

  1. Well, that puts a nice end to my need to search the forums today. I was going to ask how in the world they got access to our information. I just got an emai from Kimberly Halkett from Aljazeera myself earlier today and she mentioned she got the info from this site.
Have you checked the forums for a user with an aljazeera.net email address and removed them? I’m assuming they wouldn’t actually use that address, but it’s worth checking out.

  2. I was contacted recently by a company called raw tv. They claim to be working on a show for discovery. They got my email from one of my postings. I t was my alternate email, so it isnt a problem for me, just wanted to find out if anyone else has recieved this. Raw TV is a real company, but I am always a little cautious around anyone that works for television.
    Thanks for any input.

On a side note to the admin, This site has helped me alot. We have met several like minded folks in our A.O. from the forums.
    Thanks alot.

  3. The person who contacted us was named Cheyanne. She checks out on research but it matters little. Just do not respond or in the most politely refuse. You are in this for your life…they are in this for an income. Remember that and only that.

  5. I’m sure the media interest is partially in response to the new reality series being launched on NatGeo about Doomsday Preppers. I have no doubt the intent is to make preppers look foolish or at best “extreme” to tey to garner ratings.

    • I agree that any tv show would make us look like kooks. But remember this; when I was growing up (in foster homes on farms) we were always prepared… way back in the ’50s.

It was COMMON back then to have canned goods stocked to the brim in pantries, potatoes and apples in the cellar, onions and garlic hanging in the barn, dried beans stocked in large 5-gallon pails, molasses in gallon pails ready for morning pancakes any day of the week, and on and on and on.

EVERY farm did that. The reason was that not many trips were made per year to the supermarket. All the vegetables were grown on the farm and canned or dried at harvest. This had nothing to do with an economic crash or riots in the streets. It was just normal life on the farm. And I have continued doing that.

So these tv people need to get their heads out of their armpits and take a reality check. They are the ones who are kooks.
