  1. Welcome to the site…

Try prepper forums for advise. Also the prepper books.

A couple quick notes for all newer prepper folks. Skills which require tools, supplies, inventory and equipment to use and apply said skills have little value if said tools and equipment, etc are not on hand.

For example. Let us pretend my group could use a carpenter. A guy/gal applies here with few well rounded supplies but claims they are well versed in said construction skills. But being they work for someone else they have no tools and supplies and equipment of their own to preform their trade with here at the retreat site. In a crash there is no lumber yard open for very long either. Their skills will be of little value as the required stuff to do said skills is lacking. But oddly enough if allowed into the group they will become hungry like the rest of us and want to eat.

I could claim to be an accomplished hunt but bring no weapons to do said job. I could claim to be a great anything and especially if I had the tools and supplies to do it.

That brings us to point two. If said carpenter or paramedic is not well rounded in all their supplies to feed and provide for their family within a group then just who is supposed to be responsible for that problem of …lack of long term food etc? What is long term. I figure it is directly related to how long you would like to live with no re-supply. One month? Six months? Three years? I like the three years plus a few with the ability and supplies to reproduce and gather yet more along the way.

Hint: Do not look for me to be denying myself and my loved ones food etc to then use to provide for you all. (Some folks try to candy coat that self destructive principle by calling it…sharing). I simply call it what it is…. you failed to prep enough. Lack of substantial prepping in/for a SHTF situation simply create a second self generated SHTF situation… for you. You are now in the survival zone folks …much like the twilight zone to non preppers.

So to recap. Your paramedic skills are of as much value as if you were in the hospital with no power, no supplies, no O2, no meds to give, no IVs, no nothing. Think about that from that position… About the best you can do without the full compliment of the tools of your trade IMHO would be to confirm your patient was going to die. Much the same as the carpenter could say…Yep I could build that if I had all the tools and all the lumber and supplies at hand right here and now.

Most Doctors rely way to much on blood labs, off site testing, xrays, scans and all the other stuff which disables them in a real crash event. They are babes in the woods if stripped of all their help they depend on….. ponder that for a couple hours.

So to be in a good group you really need to well supplied in both food and other survival supplies for all the family you elected to create and all the supplies and gear on hand to perform the skills you tout.

No harm and no offense meant. This is true common sense for me just as much as it is for you and all the other preppers posting here.

Best of good fortune on your quest and keep making yourself and your skills into an asset for you and the group.

  2. Thanks for the advice I guess I should have gone into more detail but with the new baby I have stocked up on medical supplies as well a read many books and articles ony what plants and herbs can be used to take the place of certain antibiotics and basic surgery in the field I don’t want to come across as some one woods is a moocher because im far from that I have enough supplies to sustain about 6 people for around six months and the seeds to start farming food for the time after like I said I prepped for us but if something were to happen to me my wife or both of us my daughter would not make it which is why I have chosen to see if there are any groups in my area our if I need to start my own

  3. Better plan and explanation. That will help others who might have thought about you to only wish to contact you more. This is your job application on this page. make it a good one ;-)

  4. Hi Xavier,

Just read all the comments related to your post. I have family near Abilene area that may be where I bug out to if it hits the fan. Already have great preps set up there and other locals.

My “Abilene group” may be willing to work with you or let you and your family join depending on how good of a fit we all would be.

What part of West Texas are you in right now? How mobile are you?

You can contact me at fly RN jw at sbc GlobaL dot net.

Look forward to hearing from you.

PS check out http://www.thesurvivalpodcast.com. It’s awesome.

  5. I live in Morton Texas about an hour from Lubbock area, and I am a Christian.

  6. I live in Buffalo Gap, a little southwest of Abilene, my wife and I have been prepping heavily for the past 2 years. We are retired; all we do is garden and prep. If something happens we are staying in place. I am not interested in joining a group, I have learned through life and military experience, you can only depend on yourself, but am willing to help anybody. It would be nice to know of other preppers in the area. I am willing to share all knowledge and other things I am communications and electronics deficient/handicapped. I want to pick up a scanner and a shortwave radio receiver. Want to know what is coming; from which way and monitor city, county and state police and fire. I need somebody who is knowledgeable in this area to talk with me, be prepared to answer alot of questions. Take care, god bless and keep praying.
